Challenges Facing Remuneration Committees

On Wednesday 7 October, MM&K produced and led an interactive workshop on the Challenges Facing Remuneration Committees. MM&K produced the event in partnership with NEDs in FS. Participants representing a wide range of financial services firms joined in lively discussions under the Chatham House Rule.

Among others, topics included the challenges of managing transition, the implications for management of regulatory relaxation, the future for “comply or explain”, designing fit-for-purpose incentives and the importance of aligning strategy and remuneration with culture.

A highlight was the way in which participants, working in small groups, worked together to analyse and address challenges for a remuneration committee in a scenario the real-life solution to which tested the foundation of comply or explain and accepted wisdom but nonetheless won the overwhelming support of shareholders.
