Participation Still Open: Life in the Boardroom 2025/26

MM&K is inviting Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) and Board Chairs to take part in the 2025/26 edition of Life in the Boardroom, a unique biennial survey that gathers insights directly from NEDs and Board Chairs, rather than from company staff or annual reports. Since 1990, this survey has provided a detailed and accurate picture from the people who experience life in the boardroom first-hand.

The survey collects data from NEDs and Chairs across UK and overseas listed and private companies, private equity portfolio companies, public sector companies, not-for-profit organisations and charities, offering participants valuable insights into boardroom trends. Key areas covered include directors’ fees and time commitments, as well as their views on a range of topical board issues.

To illustrate how insights evolve over time, we’ve selected five responses from the 2023/24 edition:

1. Board gender ratio was 67% male: 33% female
2. 93% reported no additional fees for time spent in excess to contractual requirements
3. 78% respondents had a formal interview on appointment
4. 72% responded affirmatively when asked if their company has an ESG policy
5. 42% thought AI would benefit their firms

Given the societal and regulatory developments since then, we’re keen to see how they compare with responses in the upcoming 2025/26 survey.
