2023-2024 Life in the Boardroom, a unique survey of Board Chairs and NEDs

It is now almost time for MM&K to launch its Chair and Non-Executive Directors Survey – “Life in the Boardroom”. This is a “Must Have” publication for all Non-Executives.

This survey is unique as the data is collected from Non-Executive Directors themselves. This offers true insights into individual directors’ views about Board appointment practices and effectiveness, which otherwise would not normally be picked-up in the available published data (i.e., annual reports)

Every edition of Life in the Boardroom is unique, as we, at MM&K, do our best to report on the most recent trends and issues that NEDs face.

Our 2021-2022 Report included exclusive essential information about the changing role of NEDs post-COVID19, including (but not limited to) such pressing issues as:

• Effects of remote working
• Boards diversity
• ESG.

The role of NEDs has changed not only with regard to COVID19. Based on participants’ responses, our report offers guidance on other changes in responsibilities as well, including the wider remit and responsibilities of remuneration committees.

Life in the Boardroom 2023-2024

We are about to launch a brief opinion questionnaire that will help us tailor the 2023-2024 Survey to the needs of NEDs this / next year. We will ask NEDs to rate the importance of a number of issues including over-boarding, succession planning, risks of cyber security and more. This short “pulse survey” will, of course, give NEDs an opportunity to the nominate topics which are of most interest/concern to them.

NEDs play an important role as liaison between the board and employees and, increasingly important, is their role in the remuneration committee. In addition, responsibilities are also increasing in respect of regulations as well as business sustainability and the environment. Adjusting the business operating model to secure resilience and sustainability can be challenging.

Our survey will help you to be ready for new challenges Non-Executive Directors are facing.
