Results are in for this year’s industry leading report for Chairs and NEDs, “Life in the Boardroom”.
October 6, 2021
MM&K collected responses from Chairs and NEDs who hold a total of 885 board positions, surveying them on their fees, their use of time, and their opinions and experiences on topics such as board governance, board effectiveness, and more.
Life in the Boardroom collects responses directly from NEDs, not from published reports. This includes the ‘director views’ section, which gives readers a unique insight into the experiences and thoughts of fellow board members. Here are some of our findings:
- Growth in Chair and NED fees has been a mixed bag as fewer than half of those on the FTSE 100 saw their fees increase in the past year.
- 44% of responses indicate that the number of days spent at their company has increased since last year. Board members spend approximately a week longer working at their companies than they are contracted.
- In the wake of changes to working practices brought on by COVID-19, 75% of responses said that virtual meetings were effective or very effective in comparison to face-to-face ones.
- 22% of responses say that their board lacks the diversity it needs to navigate today’s global environment
The Life in the Boardroom Report will go into further depth on these results and much more.
It is free to all participants. If you would like to participate in the next survey, are interested in purchasing the 2020 report, or soon to be published 2021 report, click here or contact Margarita Skripina.
